The Hockey Prophets Prospect Stock Exchange©

The Prospect Stock Exchange is a marketplace for buying and selling shares of hockey prospects as they enter the NHL draft until they graduate from prospect status. 

How it works:

  • Registered users automatically start with a portfolio of $50,000 HoPro bucks in their portfolio. With HoPro bucks, shares of individual players can be purchased.
  • Owned shares can later be sold, either at a profit or loss based on the rising or falling value of the prospect.
  • Draft-year prospects will have an initial value (IPO) based on their standings among the relevant draft rankings lists at the start of the season. As shares are purchased or sold, the value of the prospects rises or falls, respectively.
  • At the conclusion of the draft, prospect values will adjust based on each prospect's actual NHL draft selection position, with the values noted on the Player Settlement table.
  • Prospects after their initial draft year will continue on the exchange until they graduate as a prospect. Graduation is based on:
    • A player ends a season with 40 or more NHL games played.
    • A player reaches the age of 24 prior to the beginning of a season
    • A player retires from hockey or has been inactive for three seasons
  • If a player graduates due to age, their value will close at the price at the end of the previous season
  • If a player retires or is inactive for three seasons, they will be delisted and their price will set to zero.
  • If a player graduates as an NHL player (40 games played) their price will be adjusted by the following formula:
    • Total Point Shares for the season in which they played their 40th NHL game, multiplied by 100, adjusted based on total years post draft year (see table below).

Example of player graduation adjustments and delist price:

Lane Hutson would have had a draft adjustment from his then price to $60 based on his draft selection at 62nd overall. His graduation delist price would have adjusted to 8.9 point shares in 2025 = 890 multiplied by the D+3 adjustment of 50% = $445
