Smilanic's defensive play is likely what will take him furthest in his pro career. He has good speed though, at time looking fast with and without the puck, but he lacked creativity and finishing ability. His passes were not always well-chosen or accurate, and his shot was not the most accurate, either. At this point he is not a first-rounder for me.
