Dobson is the complete package for an NHL defenseman. He's got great size at 6'3 and 178 and will add muscle as me matures physically. He plays a smart, accurate game in the defensive zone, using his stick, feet and smarts to gain and keep position against attackers, either in front of the net or in the corners. He plays like a field marshal, aligning his troops effectively, at both ends of the ice. He has a good shot and uses it appropriately, but also makes good, sharp passes in all three zones. Dobson has the potential to be a NHL All-Star player.

He has all the tools and uses them extremely well. His shot is big from the point, and his passing is smooth and accurate. Controls tempo on both offense and defense. His physical play is understated, but he will throw hard shoulder challenges and he uses his size and balance to leverage other players off balance. I saw at least two times in this game where he showed a shoulder check and made the Halifax attacker turn away from the contact.
