Player Notes:
Player Name | Note Type | Note | Writer | Game Watched | Method Viewing | Game Date | Game |
John Peterka | Note | Working hard on defense, keeping his stick active, swiping at puck carriers while moving his feet, lifting sticks, keeping himself between the puck and the goal. | Brian Fogarty | Canada vs Germany (2020 WJCs) | Video (With Replay) | 12/30/2019 | 10216 |
John Peterka | Note | There was just a prime example of the difference between Reichel and Peterka, at least in this game: a loose puck sliding towards the blue line in the defensive zone, Reichel is closest to the puck, but he spins away from it trying to get ready to receive a breakout pass, and he leaves the puck in empty space at the top of the circle. Peterka, behind the puck, has to lunge forward to poke to puck up ice and try just to clear the zone. The puck is eventually controlled by the opponents, mostly because Reichel just left the puck. Lazy play from Reichel who should have been more responsible. | Brian Fogarty | Canada vs Germany (2020 WJCs) | Video (With Replay) | 12/30/2019 | 10216 |
John Peterka | Note | At full stride, he's bent way over with his head out in front of his skates. | Brian Fogarty | Canada vs Germany (2020 WJCs) | Video (With Replay) | 12/30/2019 | 10216 |
John Peterka | Summary | Peterka is a sneaky-fast skater who doesn't look like he's going but then he's beating guys to the puck. He plays hard in all three zone with solid, fundamental effort. He'll keep his stick in lanes, keep oriented to the puck, and in the offensive zone he tends to stay in the high-danger area. He is unlikely to beat teams from outside the dots, but has enough size and his hands are quick enough to be able to generate offense in close in traffic. Plays a basic, pro-style game without anything overly fancy or creative. Just a blue-collar-type of player. | Brian Fogarty | Canada vs Germany (2020 WJCs) | Video (With Replay) | 12/30/2019 | 10216 |
John Peterka | Note | Good sweep with his stick pressures the point man, who then turns the puck over to Stutzle. | Brian Fogarty | Canada vs Germany (2020 WJCs) | Video (With Replay) | 12/30/2019 | 10216 |
John Peterka | Note | Gets his stick on a puck just inside the defensive zone blue line and creates a clean breakaway. However, with increasing backside pressure from the speedy Liam Foudy, he did not have enough time to try a move, and was forced to try an on-the-fly wrist shot, easily saved. | Brian Fogarty | Canada vs Germany (2020 WJCs) | Video (With Replay) | 12/30/2019 | 10216 |
John Peterka | Note | Speed is okay, edges are good. | Brian Fogarty | Canada vs Germany (2020 WJCs) | Video (With Replay) | 12/30/2019 | 10216 |
John Peterka | Note | Doing a lot of work in this game, but not being tremendously effective. It's a tough game for the Germans, but I'd like to see more display of skill and creativity from Peterka. | Brian Fogarty | Canada vs Germany (2020 WJCs) | Video (With Replay) | 12/30/2019 | 10216 |
