Calgary Flames Goaltenders Present Issues

March 17, 2016 by Zachary DeVine

When starting goaltender Karri Ramo underwent season-ending surgery for a torn ACL and meniscus damage, Calgary’s already difficult season became a complete loss. Ramo had provided some stability to the seemingly fragile team and had given the Flames a chance to win on most nights. After his injury, the Flames have managed only four wins in sixteen games and have fallen completely out of the playoff picture.

Worse for the Flames, backup netminder Jonas Hiller’s game is nowhere to be found, either in Alberta or elsewhere. Yet the Flames, knowing that Hiller has had a poor season by any metric, inexplicably started Hiller for the first five games after Ramo’s injury. The team won only a single game during that stretch.
